A refreshing concept for japanese Culture

28th July

As this day marks my last full day in Tokyo I have decided to conduct a short interview with a representative of the Nui. Hostel where I have stayed at for the last few days. I wanted to answer questions regarding, the guest demographic, their concept and peak- seasons and how they deal with potential low- season.

Concluding after this Interview I can say I gained a lot of Insights into the behaviour of tourists and how this works with the culture in japan. With the insights gained based on the theorie of Edward T. Hall which covers low context and high context cultures I was able to gain valuable insights on how these different cultures interact with eachother and how they can coexist. What was very interesting for me that the Representative of the Nui. Hostel didn’t know Edward T. Hall’s theories yet after a short explantion he directly knew what I was talking about and furthermore he was avware of the different cultures and already had experience or ideas on how to handle such situations. I think this is what “learning- by doing” usually looks like, especially when regarding that he comes from a low context culture and probably didn’t exactly tell me how many times he has had uncomfortable experiences by stubbing someones toes due to the cultural. Differences. It was nice to see that the theorie actually links that closely to the real world.
